Abhaya’ or Terminalia chebula is one of ‘Triphala’, the group of three berries indipsensable in the manufacture of Ayurvedic medicines. The term ‘Abhaya’ means ‘that which gives refuge’. True to its name, Abhyarishta in its many combinations gives the user refuge from a horde of ailments arising from a weak ‘Jatharagni’. ‘Agni’ or the agency responsible for digestion and metabolism is central to the concept of health and disease in Ayurveda.
